Solti Foundation increases grants. The Solti Foundation U.S., which assists young American conductorsin the early stages of their professional careers, has decided to award$25,000 to a young American conductor for the second time in its historythis fall. The Foundation has also decided to award a new $10,000 grantin 2010, in addition to its current $5,000 grant and smaller CareerAssistance awards given annually. The Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award, also known as the SoltiFellow, is among the largest grants given to American conductors earlyin their careers. It awards $25,000 and includes introductions to threeof Chicago's most prestigious performing organizations: Lyric Operaof Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Opera Theater. Established in 2000 to honor the memory of legendary conductor SirGeorg Solti by his widow, Lady Valerie Solti, and their two daughters,Gabrielle and Claudia, the Solti Foundation U.S. seeks to lendsignificant support to talented young American conductors, providingcritical assistance to them at the start of their professional careers.In 2004, the foundation established its current focus of helpingexceptional young American conductors.
