HistoryThe Michigan Superintendent of Public Instruction approved the establishment of South Macomb Community College as an extension of the traditional K-12 system in the Van Dyke in Warren recently reached an agreement forarticulating the K-12 hospitality and food service programs withMCC's culinary arts program. The agreement marks the first time that high school students willearn college credit in Macomb's nationally recognized culinary artsprogram. Under the new plan, qualified high school graduates who arerecommended by their instructors can enter Macomb's program at theintermediate level and enroll in "Culinary Techniques" and"Production Baking." If students complete these classes, theyreceive community college credit for both the introductory andintermediate classes. In his 40-year career in education, Trizzoli has been a collegepresident, professor, state commissioner of education, superintendentand school principal. In 1996 President Clinton appointed him assistantsecretary for elementary and secondary education at the U.S. Departmentof Education. Trizzoli succeeds Thomas Koerner, who has retired. Koerner wasNASSP's executive director for one year.
