Southwest Division. Arizona State MTA (1) (Message Transfer Agent or Mail Transfer Agent) The store and forward part of a messaging system. See messaging system.(2) See M Technology Association. 1. (messaging) MTA - Message Transfer Agent. lost one of its "pioneers" in May 2005, when Janice McCurnin, from Tucson, passed away after years of teaching and serving the local, state and national associations. Her accolades are too numerous to mention here, but they can be summed up by saying that she was the first MTNA MTNA Music Teachers National AssociationMTNA Middle Tennessee Nursery Association (McMinnville, Tennessee)national teacher of the year The National Teacher of the Year is a professional award in the United States. The program began in 1952, as a project by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), and aims to reward excellence in teaching. It is sponsored by ING. , in 2001. What greater tribute to McCurnin, who mentored and encouraged many teachers to become certified, than the efforts of the current ASMTA Certification Chair Elaine Dyches, NCTM NCTM National Council of Teachers of MathematicsNCTM Nationally Certified Teacher of MusicNCTM North Carolina Transportation MuseumNCTM National Capital Trolley MuseumNCTM Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage , (ASMTA 2005 teacher of the year). Within the past year, three members have become certified, one has finished testing, two are in the process and three have begun the process. Kudos to Dyches and the ASMTA board that set aside funds several years ago to pay for the first ten members who became certified. At least 10 state officers have begun new assignments for the 2005-2006 year. There is a nice mixture of officers from different generations and areas of the state--great efforts will be made to bridge geographical and generational gaps. The new officers already are diligently working at their new positions, planning an exciting year and continuing the progress made by outgoing board members, especially June Chow-Tyne, immediate past president. Cheryl Pachak-Brooks, NCTM Portales, New Mexico Portales is the county seat of Roosevelt CountyGR6, New Mexico, with a total population of 11,131 (as of the 2000 census). It is the home of Eastern New Mexico University.
