Southwest Division. (Division News). As another school year approaches, state MTAs are planning upcoming events. California is preparing for its state and national competitions this fall. State competitions lead to Southern and Northern Festivals in January, and to the state conference in Long Beach in February 2004. New Mexico New Mexico,state in the SW United States. At its northwestern corner are the so-called Four Corners, where Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah meet at right angles; New Mexico is also bordered by Oklahoma (NE), Texas (E, S), and Mexico (S). is planning an outstanding convention in Las Cruces, November 7-9, 2003, with clinician/performer John Perry, NCTM NCTM National Council of Teachers of MathematicsNCTM Nationally Certified Teacher of MusicNCTM North Carolina Transportation MuseumNCTM National Capital Trolley MuseumNCTM Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage , as the featured artist. Hawaii will host the Southwest Division Competitions in January 2004 and is planning its multipiano event, "Pianomania 2004." The year was one of steady growth for Nevada, initiating a trophy award for theory students and holding an enthusiastically attended Jazz Improvisation/Workshop. Nevada had the largest attendance ever at its state conference and looks forward to building on its successes. Utah will hold its state conference Nov. 7-8, 2003, at Brigham Young University Brigham Young University,at Provo, Utah; Latter-Day Saints; coeducational; opened as an academy in 1875 and became a university in 1903.
